More Waterfalls

Posted by Amami Superman

I went out today to take some photos again. I had to find my way down a mountain side to get to this spot. It was pretty slippery and I slipped a few times. I went tumbling once. If there was anyone around, they would have thought it was a wild boar crashing down the mountain side. But, my extra padding cushioned my fall. "And he's OK!"

I've seen this spot from up off the road but never tried to actually get down to it. When I got down right next to it, there really wasn't a whole lot of area to set up my camera. I couldn't get right in front of it because there was big rocks everywhere and then another drop down. I had to go back up the mountain just a bit to get this angle. I was having a hard time trying to figure out what kind of a shot I wanted. I tried a few different spots to shoot from and ended up taking most of my photos from this spot.

I used manual mode today. Here are my settings.

Shutter Speed: 1.3 sec
Exposure Program: Manual
F-Stop: f/22.0
Aperture Value: f/22
Max Aperture Value: f/3.5
ISO Speed Rating: 100
Focal Length 18.00mm
Lens: 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6

And here is the picture after I retouched it in Photoshop. I upped the exposure a bit and some other variable settings. I also added a soft glow to it.

It wasn't the best place to take pictures. But, I thought this one turned out OK.

Some Holiday in Japan

Posted by Amami Superman

So we had a day off today. I'm not sure what holiday it is, but we got it off. We decided to go out for a drive. First we stopped off to see some relatives. 2 actually. Both of them are pretty old. One is in the hospital. She's pretty healthy and still gets around pretty well but she recently hurt her back and is in the hospital for rehabilitation. The other is out a bit from town and wasn't home. She was at the old folks' daycare center. So we came back to town and ate lunch then set out again. My real intent and purpose for going for a drive was to find some new places to take pictures. I did find one place that was kind of off the beaten path. I took a few shots and thought it would be cool to take a few of my wife and daughter since they were hear. I didn't take very many shot today because I didn't know how many I was going to take today and my camera battery was low. Here is the shot I took of them. I only took one. I wanted the slow exposure so I had to have them hold still for a few seconds. They moved...

Here is the picture.

Somewhere in Uken

Posted by Amami Superman

This morning I went out to Uken again to take some pictures. I really didn't know where I was going to go but I had a general idea of where I wanted to go. This picture was taken pretty far into the mountains. It was just barely getting light out when I started hiking into the woods. It was kind of scary because it's getting warmer and the danger of poisonous snakes is getting higher. I need to be very careful now it's getting near spring.

So I took this picture. It's nothing really to talk about. I was the second place I stopped to take pictures and it was just off the road. I still had to climb down but it was pretty clear so I wasn't too scared. You can see an old bridge in the background. The railing was rusting to bits and parts of it was completely deteriorated along with big chunks of concrete missing. I didn't take too many pictures this morning. I thought this one was one of the better looking ones so I thought I would post it.

On the way back out of the mountains, just as I was about to get to he main road, I came across what I thought were some hybiscus at first. Turns out they were just azaleas. They were loaded with flowers so I stopped to take a few pictures. Here is one that I took.

I haven't gotten the chance to go out much lately. Hopefully I'll get some better luck with weather and work so I can get out more to take some pictures.
